The restoration project is the Corporate Social Responsible Project of the UN ASEAN Business Council Institute. For 7 years, US ASEAN has been giving funding for restoration of synagogue and starting from now Myanmar Shalom Travels will take responsibility for all funding for the synagogue. The event was held not only to recognize the special support of US ASEAN Business Council but also the effort of Frances Zwenig, President of U.S ASEAN Business Council Institute.
On that day, there was also an interfaith meeting with all leaders from Muslim, Christian, Bahai, Hindu and Buddhist. Among the honored guests was H.E.U Aung Min, Union Minister for President Office, H.E. Mr. Hagay Moshe Behar, Ambassador of Israel , H.E. Mr. Derek Mitchell, Ambassador of U.S, Dr. Thant Myint U, Founder of Yangon Heritage Trust, Daw Than Than Nu, members from Myanmar Peace Centre and all leaders from Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Buddhist.
In the opening remarks given by ambassador of Israel, he mentioned the warm and friendly relation that exist between the Jewish Community and all the religious communities in Myanmar and noted that the Jewish Community in the Golden Land never felt any sense of anti-Semitism or discrimination, and its members enjoyed from freedom to practice their tradition, religion and faith. He also appreciated the remarkable work of Samuels’s family from Yangon Synagogue in preserving the heritage and history of the Jewish community in Yangon.
