Alean Al-Krenawi (PhD) is President of Achva Academic College and Professor of Social Work at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. He is former Dean of the School of Social Work at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. Dr. Al-Krenawi's research interests include multicultural mental-health, political violence and social work with indigenous populations. He conducted studies in Israel, Canada, Palestine and other Arab countries. Among his numerous publications are books on Ethno-psychiatry among Bedouin Arabs in Israel, on Multicultural Social Work in Canada and on the psychological effects of political violence. He is currently working on a book dealing with polygamy and mental health in the Middle East.
Prof. Al-Krenawi is the first non-Jew to be appointed head of an academic institution in Israel. The cornerstones of Prof. Al-Krenawi's educational vision are an emphasis on participatory instruction attuned to the needs of the students, applied research producing workable models for educational and other practitioners, and engagement in the community by both students and faculty.
