This past year the Embassy of Israel in Pretoria presented the Yad Vashem Award to Dr Elizabeth (Betty) Lantermans-Krusoe and Henk Lantermans, children of Karel and Hilda Lantermans who risked their lives to save two Jews in Holland during the Holocaust by hiding them in their house.
It was a very moving ceremony that took place in the Pretoria Hebrew Congregation, where Ambassador Segev - Steinberg presented the medal and diploma from Yad Vashem to the Lantermans siblings.
Mr Lantermans spoke on behalf of his family, a letter was read by the decendants of the survivor (Mr Avraham Levi) whom the Lantermans parents had rescued and the South African, Netherlands and Israeli anthems were played.
