The 21st st century began with a reminder that terrorist attacks and mass casualty situations can happen anywhere. Until recently only a few countries had prepared themselves to deal with natural disasters or terrorists attacks. Over the last several years, there has been an increasing awareness of the importance of emergency preparedness to cope with theses emergency events.
A Mass Casualty Situation is an event in which hospitals are
required to treat injured persons beyond their capabilities and
capacities. The State of Israel is one of a few countries with more than 60 years of experience in preparing its health care system to deal with a variety of mass casualty situations. Rambam Health Care Campus is often on the front line of a home front war and continues to function at full strength, treating both civilian and army emergencies, as well as regular patients who continue to come to the hospital for treatment.
