A Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the beginning of May by UN-Women (the United Nations Entity of Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women) and MASHAV (Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation), providing a framework of cooperation aimed at the economic empowerment of women.

The agreement between the parties pays particular attention to women in agro-technology; capacity building and training in agro-technology and agro-business; and to the establishment of a Leadership Center, including design and running of leadership development programs in the East and Horn of Africa regions.

UN-Women is the United Nations organization devoted to gender equality and the empowerment of women. It is also responsible for mobilizing efforts by the United Nations to promote gender equality, increase opportunities and combat discrimination throughout the world. It serves in many respects as the operational arm of the UN at the country level and works with partners in numerous countries to promote sustainable development, eradication of poverty, advancement of women, good governance and the rule of law.
