SIGNATURE OF QUEBEC-ISRAEL ECONOMIC COOPERATION AGREEMENT

    September 22, 2008

The Consulate General of Israel in Montreal announces the signing of an agreement concerning the development of economic and technological cooperation between the Government of the State of Israel and the Government of Quebec on Monday, September 22, 2008 in Jerusalem.

The signing of this cooperation agreement by the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Trade and Labour, Eliyahu Yishai, and the Quebec Minister for Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Raymond Bachand comes on the first day of a three-day mission to Israel by a more than 40-strong business delegation from Quebec.

This agreement aims at promoting and fostering trade, investment initiatives and joint-ventures in sectors such as life sciences, aerospace and telecom, and follows the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement last December in areas including culture, education and science and technology signed by both parties in Quebec City.

Minister Bachand’s words upon the eve of the mission’s departure for Israel: “creativity, audacity and competence, Quebec has the capacity to succeed in Israel,” mirror the sentiments of Premier Jean Charest who praised Israel’s ingenuity and innovative spirit on the event of the sixtieth anniversary of the State of Israel.

“The signing of this agreement is yet another affirmation of our mutual desire to strengthen the existing synergy and bilateral relations between Israel and Quebec in areas such as hi-tech, as well as science and development.  We are convinced this will lead to increased joint-ventures and investments between our respective societies,” says Yoram Elron, Consul General of Israel for Quebec.
