Trois Rivieres- On Wednesday, October 9th, 2013, city hall representatives, local dignitaries, members of the Quebec Jewish community and prominent figures on the cultural scene joined the Consul General of Israel in Montreal for the inauguration of Israel’s plaque on the “Promenade de la Poesie,” a Mauricie landmark.
This shared initiative led by the Consulate General of Israel in Montreal and the Festival International de la Poesie a Trois Rivieres was born as a result of the prolonged relationship between Israeli poets and the North American capital of poetry.
Israel’s freshly installed plaque can be seen alongside some 300 plus excerpts displayed along the St. Lawrence River.
Israel’s selection features a verse by award-winning Israeli poetess, Tal Nitzan and was chosen based on the promenade’s theme of love. Ms. Nitzan is also currently participating in the “Festival International de la Poesie” from October 4 – 13, 2013.
Following the unveiling of the new plaque, the Consul General, Mr. Joel Lion signed the golden book in Trois-Rivieres’ City Hall, and addressed those in attendance. He said “Since King David, wrote the book of Psalms in Jerusalem, 3000 years ago, poetry from Israel spread in the world. It is a privilege to be able to share with you this excerpt of modern Israeli poetry “
