Maccabiah Games 2013


    The 19th Maccabiah Games opened last Thursday with a record of 9,000 athletes from 78 countries. 
    Here are the highlights from today's Maccabiah Games:

    Track and Field- Donald Sanford broke the Israeli record in the 400 meters race with a fantastic time: 45.65, as he beat Olympic finalist Steven Solomon, who took the silver.

    Swimming- Yahav Shahaf set a new Israeli record in the 50 meters sprint – 22.68 seconds. Olympic medalist Garrett Weber-Gale took the gold with a new Maccabiah record: 22.12 seconds. 
    In the juniors, Zohar Shikler set a new record:25.71 sec. Later, Andrea Murez won her fourth gold medal in the women’s competition – and set a new Maccabiah record: 25.71 sec. Anya Gostomelski finished second and Keren Sibner took the bronze. 

    Basketball- Israel’s masters team (45+) beat Australia 67:38, led by Moshe Rice, Doron Jamchi and Doron Shefa. In the open tournament, Team USA beat Guinea-Bissau 141-66.
