Gilad Millo

Consul for Media and Public Affairs

Consul Millo arrived in Los Angeles to assume the post of Consul for Media and Public Affairs, after serving two years as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Nairobi Kenya.  The son of a thirty-seven year career diplomat, Gilad grew up around the globe, spending most of his childhood in Bonn, London, New York and Ankara and Israel.

Gilad joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2002, and after completing his training, joined the team of spokespeople for the Foreign Ministry.  In addition, he acted as liaison to journalists from Asia and Africa stationed in Israel and served as the assistant to the Deputy Director General for Media and Public Affairs.  In 2003 he was appointed to the post of Deputy Head of Mission in Nairobi, with a portfolio reaching far beyond Kenya to five additional African nations.  During his term he initiated food relief projects, feeding thousands of malnourished children in response to a call for aid by the government of Kenya. He was also the driving force behind the formation of the African Women’s Forum for Israel, an advocacy group, made up of women leaders from across Africa.  Consul Millo served also as deputy permanent representative to two United Nations organizations dedicated to the environment (UNEP) and housing (UNHABITAT) headquartered in Nairobi.

Before embarking on his diplomatic career, Consul Millo gained extensive experience in the media as a journalist covering the Foreign Desk for Israel’s Channel Two News.  He served as both an editor and reporter during 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan.

He is married to Hadas whom he met while they were both serving in the Israel Defense Forces.  They have two children.
