Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman met with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Members of Congress in Washington this week to discuss current events in the Middle East.
Iran led the agenda, as FM Liberman and Sec. Clinton talked extensively about the impact of the new sanctions on Iran's economy, and the increased pressure needed to prevent the Islamic Republic from achieving nuclear capability. They expressed concern at events in Syria and also reviewed developments in Egypt. Both diplomats discussed efforts to reach a two-state solution with the Palestinians, and the importance of maintaining the momentum of the Jordan meetings.Following the meetings, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland stated that Secretary Clinton reconfirmed the United States' "unshakable commitment to the relationship, not only to Israel's security, but to Israel's democracy, based on our shared values and the ties between our people."
During his trip to the United States, FM Liberman also met with Senators and Members of Congress including the the House Foreign Affairs committee. From there he flew New York to brief UN Security Council Members on the Council's relations with Israel and the situation in the Middle East.
