An Israeli film, The Ballad of the Weeping Spring, will be in 2013 Houston Cinema Arts Festival.
Nominated for nine Israeli Oscars, The Ballad of the Weeping Spring is the story of a legendary Mizrahi band reuniting to play an emotional final concert.
The film centers on Yosef Tawila, former leader of the band, and his ex band-mate, Avram. Torn apart by a tragic car accident, the two friends have been estranged for years – that is, until Avram falls gravely ill and requests to see their lost symphony performed before an audience. Tasked with honoring his friend’s last wish, Yosef sets out to form a new band and faces the past that has haunted him for a long time.
Done in the style of a spaghetti western, the film is both playful and joyous. Directed by Benny Toraty.
