Ambassador Meir Shlomo assumed the role as Consul General of Israel to the Southwest, based in Houston, in mid-August 2010.
With more than 30 years of experience in Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Shlomo has served in a variety of positions.
His previous post was Head of Mission at the Consulate General of Israel to New England in Boston, Massachusetts. Ambassador Shlomo has also served as the head of the Foreign Ministry’s Public Diplomacy Division, responsible for Israel’s public diplomacy campaign throughout all of its missions across the globe, and is currently working on his PhD in that field. Ambassador Shlomo served as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Israeli Embassies in India, Denmark, Peru, and El Salvador.
Ambassador Shlomo has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Tel Aviv University and a Master’s Degree in Mass Communication from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He graduated from both programs summa cum laude. He speaks English, Spanish, and Hebrew.
