Since its founding in 1967, The Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has
relied on the vision of an Israeli legend to provide a basis for growth
of the once desolate Negev region of Israel. Demonstrating the
commitment of Israel's first prime minister, David Ben Gurion, the
University's 12,000 students specialize in community medicine, desert
research, and high technology in an effort to develop Israel's south.
The Blaustein Institute for
Desert Research and the Institute for
Applied Research both provide cutting edge facilities for specialists
who conduct experimental exploration into all aspects of life in arid
climates. Moreover, through cooperation in areas such as desertification,
agriculture, and irrigation, the faculty of Ben-Gurion University has
issued a clear mandate to constructing a sound peace between Israel and
its Arab neighbors.
