Ambassador Alon Ushpiz was born in Haifa, Israel in 1966.
After completing in 1988 his military service in the IDF, he obtained his B.A. degree with honours in International Relations and Japanese Studies from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
In 1992, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Cadet in the Diplomatic Training Program. After studying Japanese Foreign Policy and Internal Politics at Tokyo University for a year and a half, he was posted in 1995 at the Embassy of Israel in Japan as a Political Secretary. In 1999, back in Jerusalem, he served as policy advisor to several former Israeli foreign ministers, including Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, Mr. Shimon Peres, Mr. David Levy, Mr. Shlomo Ben-Ami and Mr Silvan Shalom. In 2003, he was posted at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, where he served as a Minister for Congressional Affairs. In 2007, he was appointed as Head of the Bureau for Coordination in the Ministry in Jerusalem.
From July 2011, he serves as Ambassador of Israel to India and Non-Resident Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Ushpiz is married to Inbar and has two children.
