Ms. Maya Karmely was appointed Consul for Public Affairs at the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest in the Fall of 2010. Beginning in August 2012, for one year, Ms. Karmely assumed additional responsibilities when she was appointed Acting Deputy Consul General/Deputy Head of Mission.
Ms. Karmely collaborates with elected officials, community leaders, organizations and institutions.
She is also responsible for public diplomacy, including cultural and academic affairs and digital media. As a diplomat, Ms. Karmely works to promote US-Israel relations and to expand Israel's outreach in the Midwest through intellectual exchange and cultural dialogue.
Prior to joining the Ministry, Ms. Karmely received her Masters of Science degree (cum laude) in cell research and immunology from Tel Aviv University. Her work was published in the International Journal of Cancer and Cancer Research Journal.
Ms. Karmely has experience in sales management and marketing in the high-tech industry.
