Consul for Public Affairs, Maya Karmely was appointed Consul for Public Affairs at the Consulate General of Israel in Chicago in the Fall of 2010. Ms. Karmely is responsible for Cultural and Academic Affairs and various aspects of public diplomacy. Consul Karmely works to promote Israeli American relations through intellectual exchange and cultural dialogue. By collaborating with prestigious institutions, she works to expanded Israel's outreach in the Midwest.

​Prior to joining the Ministry, Ms. Karmely received her Masters of Science degree (cum laude) in cell research and immunology from Tel Aviv University. Her work was published in the International Journal of Cancer and Cancer Research Journal.
Ms. Karmely has experience in sales management and marketing in the Hi-tech industry.
