Nissan Amdur

Mr.
Nissan Amdur was appointed to the position of Minister-Counselor
for Political Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in
Washington in August 2009.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign affairs in 1994.
This is his fourth posting abroad. Prior to his arrival
to Washington DC, he completed a three year term as
Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in
Cairo. Other assignments included four years in Moscow,
where he was in charge of Public Affairs and Interfaith
Relations, and two years in Ankara, where he held
the portfolio of Middle Eastern Affairs.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem he
worked as Deputy Director of the Jewish Communities
Department at the Diaspora and Inter-Religious Affairs
Bureau from 2003 to 2006. He also was the Desk Officer
for Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus at the Eurasia
Division.
Mr. Amdur holds a Bachelors degree in Arabic and Middle
Eastern Studies from Tel Aviv University, and a Masters
degree in Foreign Relations-Contemporary Middle East
Studies, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
He holds the rank of Captain in the Intelligence Corps
of the Israel Defense Forces, where he served for
five years.
He is married to a fellow Israeli diplomat and a father
of two.
