On
the occasion of Yom Haazmaut- Israel's Independence Day, I
extend to you my warmest greetings. As we celebrate 56 years
of statehood, our people share feelings of gratitude for
what we have achieved and optimism for all that we aim to
accomplish in the future.
We are proud of what we have achieved so far; the
establishment of the only true democracy in the Middle East,
the development of one of the most technologically advanced
countries in the world, and the cultivation of a diverse and
thriving society.
Israel belongs to the entire Jewish people. Therefore, it is
our collective responsibility to safeguard its future and
ensure its freedom and well-being.
In this regard, we have a true friend and loyal ally, the
United States of America, which has stood by us through
tragedy and triumph. The recent visit of Prime Minister
Sharon and his meeting and exchange of letters with
President Bush is proof that this bond will grow even
stronger in the future.
As Israel embarks upon an important security initiative
through our disengagement plan, it is ever more important
that friends of Israel lift their voices and that the
message of solidarity with Israel is heard throughout the
world.
Israel is fully committed to the security of our citizens.
At the same time, we are equally committed to laying the
foundations for a genuine and lasting peace for ourselves
and for our region. With your support, and with the backing
of the US administration and Congress, I am confident that
we will be successful in this mission.
The people of Israel lives- Am Yisrael Chai!
Ambassador Daniel Ayalon
