Daniel Meron - Minister
of Congressional Affairs
Daniel Meron returned to the Embassy of Israel in Washington DC in July 2007 as the new Minister of Congressional Affairs.
Previously, he served as the Director of the Department of Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusalem from 2003 to 2007.
From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Meron served as the Counselor for Congressional Affairs at the Embassy of Israel, Washington, DC.
Mr. Meron was the Advisor on Foreign Affairs to the President of Israel, Ezer Weizman from 1997-2000.
From 1995-1997, he served as a Legal Advisor in the Office for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.
Between 1990 and 1995, Mr. Meron served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Oslo, Norway and the Embassy of Israel, in Nicosia, Cyprus.
He started his career with the Israeli Foreign Service in 1989 as a desk officer in the Egyptian Department.
Mr. Meron began his Cadet Course with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1987, and was sent to the Embassy of Israel in Caracas, Venezuela for a three-month internship in 1988.
Mr. Meron holds a L.L.M. in international law from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and bachelors in law from Bar-Ilan University. He also completed advanced studies in international relations at the Hebrew University. He is a member of the Israeli Bar Association. He served in the Israel Defense Force as a Liaison Officer to the Jordanian and Egyptian armies, where he attained the rank of Major.
Daniel Meron is married to Jill, and they have four children.
