Andy Ram Becomes the First Israeli to Win a Grand Slam
July 11, 2006


Israeli Andy Ram and Russian Partner Vera Zvonareva defeated Bob Bryan and Venus Williams of the United States, in Wimbledon's mixed doubles championship. The win makes Andy Ram the first Israeli to ever win a grand slam title at the professional level. Ram and Zvonareva took the match in two sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.

Ram, who lives in Jerusalem, turned pro in 1998 and has a career doubles record of 114 wins and 78 losses to go with 8 titles.
