Embassy of Israel Briefing
The Israel Government Decision regarding the Road Map
The decision taken Sunday (25 May) by the Israeli Government
accepting the steps set out in the Road Map constitute yet another
expression of Israel's willingness to extend its hand toward peace,
despite the profound price which this entails.
Indeed, the Government decision reflects a fundamental Israeli
policy - the State of Israel is ready to take upon itself painful
compromises in order to achieve peace, provided these compromises
will not endanger its security in any manner.
Israel views its comments on the Road Map, and the American commitment
to address these comments, as integral parts of the Road Map's
implementation process. Consequently, Israel's comments were attached
to the government decision itself.
