UN Security Council Resolution 1435
(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson)
The Security Council Resolution contains both positive elements
and other elements that Israel has difficulty in accepting.
On the positive side, the Resolution mentions the Palestinian
terrorist attacks, calling for them to end. The resolution also
calls on the Palestinian Authority to put terrorists and those
responsible for terrorist acts on trial, in accordance with the
commitments that the Palestinian Authority has taken upon itself.
On the other hand, the Resolution calls for an immediate cessation
of IDF activities in the Ramallah area and for the withdrawal
of forces from Palestinian cities.
The recent events have not changed Israel's readiness to continue
with diplomatic contacts and to attain peace in accordance with
the outline presented by President Bush.
