Ambassador Ivry Responds to the Acts of Terror in America:
September 13, 2001

I stand before you today with a saddened soul and a heavy heart.

Though no words can describe the grief and sorrow of the Israeli people, I wish to convey the profound condolences of my country to the citizens of America for their immeasurable loss.

The tragedy inflicted upon this nation was felt throughout the globe, and resonated deeply within the heart and soul of the Israeli nation.

It was in this vein that the Government of Israel declared yesterday a national day of mourning.

This act serves as a testament to the abiding relationship between the United States and Israel, and a demonstration that we stand hand-in-hand with America in its time of crisis, hardship, and pain.

Just as the United States has aided Israel in its times of need, we now reach out to all Americans as partners, family, and friends.

As we gather here today, our hearts are united, and our voices are one. Together we grieve for the lives lost, and pray for the recovery of the injured.

To the families of the victims, we send our heartfelt sympathy, hope, and prayers.

The vitality of the United States has been tested, but those who sought its destruction have failed. The fundamental values of freedom and democracy will surely prevail.

Incitement and hate have brought about extreme devastation and terror. Illustrating that the power of words has become more dangerous than the power of weapons.
Still, our hearts have not hardened. Our determination has only increased.

Together, we remain steadfast in the pursuit of peace and security, and resolved in international efforts to eliminate terrorism throughout the world.

"Advance, O' Lord! May your enemies be scattered and may your foes flee before you."

The United States and Israel will forever remain partners in the quest for peace.

Thank you. Shalom.
