Theater
Theater in Israel is distinctive in its many different
elements-contemporary and classical, local and foreign-with
playwrights, actors, directors and producers of many
backgrounds collaborating together. Several high-level
theater schools in Israel include the Nissan Nativ
Acting Studio and the School of Visual Theater.
The Israeli theater scene is very active with many
theaters and dozens of companies performing throughout
the country, and around the world. In addition to
Hebrew, Israeli theatre is performed in Arabic, Russian
and English.

The New York Times raved over Israel's Gesher Theatre
Company's production of The Slave when it featured
at the Lincoln Center Festival in 2004. The Cameri
Theatre sold out several Hebrew performances of Shakespeare's
Hamlet, in Washington, D.C.
Itay Tiran, the lead actor in the Cameri Theatre's
Washington production of Hamlet, recently won an AICF
scholarship. It has become increasingly common to
see Israeli playwrights, directors, actors and actresses
in performances across the United States, and American
actors also perform in Israeli theater companies.
In addition, American universities will regularly
perform Israeli theater.
